Key Results to Date
Since the inception of the programme, GMF currently implements its activities through the GMC hospital facility and in health posts established in Galkayo and Central Somalia including 6 IDP settlements (Buulobacley, Buula Control, Buulo Calanley, Buulo Bishaaro, Buulo Mustaqbal and Buulo Margaga) within which are 15 other smaller IDP settlements. Through its services, the GMC’s services are estimated to benefit an average of 10,000 households living in the city of Galkayo. The GMC has the invaluable experience of networking in project implementation and planning. GMC currently manages grants estimated at over USD 0.5 Million per annum directly benefiting over 10,000 households (girl child, women and youth) and indirectly over 30,000 inhabitants of Puntland and Central Somalia.
GMC has grown to its present status of a renowned referral site for surgical corrections of genital fistula and hundreds of other complex surgical procedures and treatment reporting to have served almost 30,000 inpatient and outpatient clients in 2019. Services received from the GMC by IDPs account for 30% of the population served by GMC. The centre strives to contribute significantly to national efforts aimed at prevention of negative effects of and elimination of female genital mutilation in Puntland and Central Somalia, particularly the city of Galkayo.
